Apprentice Program

Are you Referee Material?
Ed Meyer, Director of the Apprentice Program of the New Hampshire Soccer Officials Association, is seeking prospective candidates to begin the apprentice process for certification of high school games by the NHSOA in conjunction with the NHIAA, the governing body of New Hampshire School Athletics.
For further information relative to the 2009 Program, contact Ed Meyer evenings or weekends.
Apprentice General Course Outline and Meetings
January through May Create data base of potential apprentices
June 30 Deadline for apprentice fee and registration
July Rules class at Winnisquam Regional Middle School.Clinic at Bow *Written test, Physical test
August *Field positioning and mechanics class at WinnisquamManchester West Jamboree
August through September *Game observation and question and answer session with experienced referees and assessor.
September through October Partner rating system and field assessments.
October Final Field test at Nashua. *Possible written rules re-test.
November Notify apprentices of status and awarding of patches.
Retraining Requirements for prior officials* -
1. Pay fee and assessment game fees.
2. Take National Federation of High Schools Soccer Exam
a) open book testb) passing grade required
3. Attend updated rules meeting
a) the scheduled apprentice class rules meeting orb) special rules retraining class (when available)
4. Attend annual NHSOA Clinic
a) participate in required classes as set by the Apprentice Director or Assessment Director
5. Participate in preseason evaluation program
a) optional
6. Attend special In-season Meeting
7. Take Field Test
a) allowance of only one field test per seasonb) passing grade required to become level 3 "certified official"
*Note: prior officials are previous board members who have left our association in good standing and have not been assigned games by our association for 3 or more years.
USSF Crossover Requirements for USSF Officials to enter NHSOA into Level 3 status -
1. Be a member in good standing of the USSF Association
2. Qualified at USSF Level 8 for a minimum of 3 years
3. Apply to NHSOA by June 1
a) notification made to Apprentice Directorb) applicant shall be 18 years of age or older
4. Pay all required fees
a) entrance fee (includes insurance program)b) all applicable game assessment fees
5. Take National Federation of High Schools Soccer Exam
a) closed book examb) passing grade of 80%
6. Pass a Field Test.
7. Attend NHSOA Annual Clinic to be held at Bow High School in Bow
a) participate in field mechanics class
8. Participate in Physical Fitness Evaluation Program
9. Attend a National Federation of High Schools new rules interpretation meeting conducted by NHSOA
10. Fulfill all other requirements of Level 3 members on an annual basis
