TOURNAMENT CRITERIA

 

The NHSOA has very specific criteria in recommending officials to work the NHIAA tournament.  It follows the guidelines as propounded in the November 21, 2000 memo from James Desmarais in that no official will officiate a game in which they have a direct family relationship with the team participating, they are employed by the school or district that team represents, and they have a ³special interest² in the contest which might involve personal friendships with a coach, current alumnus status from one of the schools, or recent employment with the school and/or its team, as say a recent coach or assistant coach.

 

  1. NHIAA criteria:
    1. Member in good standing of recognized official association, NHSOA.
    2. Officiate a minimum of twelve(12) varsity matches, or higher level matches.
    3. Attend an approved interpretation session.
    4. Complete the NFHS rules examination and file it with the Supervisor of Officials no later than 1 September.

 

Furthermore, the NHSOA Supervisor and the Soccer Committee adheres to these guidelines.

 

  1.  Selection Input:
    1. Soccer Committee members, in particular the chair.
    2. Tournament Evaluations.
    3. NHSOA Director of Assessments.
    4. NHSOA Assignor.
    5. Official must have tournament availability and meet NHIAA guidelines.
    6. Official must have been a NHSOA official for at least three years (so that an assessment can be performed).
    7. Official must officiate varsity or higher level games.

 

  1. Semi-finals:
    1. Different officials work in semi and finals for the same class
    2. Official must have worked at least three years at semi level before doing finals.
    3. Maximum of two semi-final matches at initial selection.
    4. Diagonal experience is essential.

 

  1. Finals:
    1. Only one boys or girls final per official at initial selection.
    2. Different officials in the finals than the semis.
    3. Official will work at different final than the previous year.
    4. Official must work at least three years at semi before first final.
    5. No difference between girls and boys finals.
    6. Diagonal experience, especially as referee is essential.
